    • q: what does FAQ mean?
    • a: Frequently Asked Questions

    • q: How is the site structured?
    • a: with a lot of discussion opportunities. If you are a member you can discuss any section of the site that you want to.

    • q: why do I have to log in to different parts of the site?
    • a: The site needs to know who you are so that it knows how to let you look
at the site. If it knows you from your login it knows whether you are an editor
or a “civilian” if you didn’t have to login - neither would anyone else and
then who knows who would be editing the site for you then.

    • q: why can’t i change everything in every part of the site?
    • a: it is vital that we have certain people acting as chief editors or moderators
for sections of the site so that there is some control. Grasmere primary school
is putting enormous control over the site into your hands - and the login
system is a small price to pay - you are editing directly to the world wide
web when you edit in the websites so you can imagine the potential for error
and therefore the need for some controls.

    • q: I get the login Page when I try to access a page and it says I am not a member
    • a: may be you shouldn’t be a member and it’s a site where everyone talks about you! If you arrive at a site that you don’t have membership for or you get the login page when trying to acquire a page, download or a survey and there is no <JOIN> box then add /member/signup to the end of the site home page URL for example http://www.grasmereprimaryschool.org.uk/member/login

If it isn’t an editors-only site you will get the joining form and become a member and the whole “cookie” system will kick-in in your browser. If it’s an editor’s-only site then come and see me and I will make you a member with the appropriate editorial rights. When filling out you member profile don’t forget to select to receive bulletins and non HTML is considered “pukka”.

    • q: what is this site for?
    • a: this is a location for placing work that we will be sharing with each
other. If you need a site for joint-working with schools, other schools, and so on contact Greg.

    • q: what’s a URL?
    • a: a Uniform Resource Locater which means the address that you see for a page or place within a page at the top of the browser window
      address

    • q: what’s the calendar for?
    • a:

    • q: what problems may occur?
    • a: you may place something here that you didn’t want to go out to the world
and by giving away your password or leaving your browser logged in you have
left the site open to others from you machine. For this reason the “cookie”
expires at the end of every session such as a re-boot or when you close the
browser. A cookie is the name for a tiny bit of computer code that allows the site to recognise the PC you are working on at any moment

    • q: I cannot get access to one of the pages linked from this or
other parts of the site - why
    • a: 1.)you aren’t yet a member - Greg will fix this for you, if appropriate,
and will give you the appropriate rights within that site - he will also apologise. 2.) you aren’r supposed to see it I suppose.

    • q: do I need to understand HTML and web design?
    • a: no but you will learn enough to run your own pages very quickly

    • q: how do I help myself?
    • a: visit our help
      or ask Greg

    • q: I have a million more potential faq’s that i think would be good here
      if an answer exists
    • a: contact Greg who will find an answer and post it here or on the “Help”
      pages
